Jasprit Bumrah has been on a roll ever since India’s tour of Australia in 2024-25, where he smashed several records with 32 wickets in the five-match series. He continued that form in England and broke several more records in just one innings in Leeds.
Here are the top three records that the Indian speedster Bumrah broke while bowling in the first innings of England at Headingley.
With at least one more innings to go in this Test where he can bowl, expect more record-breaking performances from Boom-Boom Bumrah.
After taking just two wickets in England’s first innings, Bumrah went past Pakistan legend Wasim Akram to become the highest wicket-taking Asian bowler in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia) countries.
Most wickets for Asian bowlers in SENA countries
150 - Jasprit Bumrah
146 - Wasim Akram
141 - Anil Kumble
130 - Ishant Sharma
While he took over Akram on Day 2 of the Headingley Test, which is the first of the five-match series, Bumrah equalled Indian great Kapil Dev on day three. He took a five-wicket haul to give India a slender lead of six runs and thereby joined Kapil as the Indian bowler with the most five-wicket hauls in away Tests.
While Kapil took 108 innings to record 12 five-wicket hauls, Bumrah did it in just 64.
Most Five Wicket Hauls For India In Away Tests
12 - Jasprit Bumrah (64 inns)
12 - Kapil Dev (108 inns)
10 - Anil Kumble (121 inns)
9 - Ishant Sharma (111 inns)
In the process of achieving the above-mentioned feats, Bumrah also became the first Asian bowler to cross the mark of 150 wickets in Tests in SENA Countries. Greats of the game like Akram, Waqar Younis, Muttiah Muralitharan and Anil Kumble couldn’t do what Bumrah did at the age of 31.
