Jasprit Bumrah doubtful for England series, Champions Trophy: Reports

Bumrah left the field on Day 2 of the Sydney Test during Australia’s first innings and did not return to bowl in the Australian second innings as well

Jasprit Bumrah’s workload mismanagement during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 seemed to have spiraled into a bigger issue for India as he might be ruled out for the upcoming home series against England and his playing in the initial stages of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 also seems far fetched.

Bumrah left the field on Day 2 of the Sydney Test during Australia’s first innings and did not return to bowl in the Australian second innings as well. Later on, Prasidh Krishna confirmed that it was a back spasm that ruled Bumrah out of the rest of the fifth Test.

In a report by PTI, it has been said that Bumrah might be facing a serious injury concern and if it turns out to be the same as reported, he might be ruled out for 3 weeks to almost three months.

In the report, it was said that a Grade 1 injury would mean that Bumrah would be out for at least three weeks while a Grade 2 injury would rule him out for at least 6 weeks.

If it is worse than Grade 2 then Bumrah could miss the entire Champions Trophy as well, because he could be ruled out for at least three months and sent to National Cricket Academy (NCA) to fully recover and rehabilitate.

However, one thing is sure, after bowling 151 overs in five Tests in the Australian heat, Bumrah would most likely miss the T20 leg of England’s tour of India. The tour will begin with the first T20I of the five-match series.

The Champions Trophy will begin on February 19 with hosts Pakistan taking on New Zealand at Karachi while India’s first match will be against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai.
