On October 10 (Friday), Jasprit Bumrah became only the seventh Indian player to feature in at least 50 games across all three international formats. The milestone came after he was named in India’s playing XI for the second Test against West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Playing his 50th Test, Bumrah has also appeared in 89 ODIs and 75 T20Is for India, claiming 467 wickets across formats. He is widely regarded as one of the great fast bowlers of the modern generation and is the only Indian seamer to reach the 50-match mark in all three formats.
The only other Indians to achieve this feat are MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, and KL Rahul. Kohli stands out as the only Indian to play at least 100 matches in each format, a distinction he shares globally with former New Zealand batter Ross Taylor and former Australian opener David Warner.
In the first Test against West Indies in Ahmedabad, Bumrah became the fastest Indian bowler to take 50 Test wickets at home, achieving the landmark in just 1747 deliveries, well ahead of Mohammed Shami, who reached it in 2267 balls.
In terms of innings taken, Bumrah reached 50 Test wickets at home in just 24 innings, equalling the record held by Javagal Srinath, though Srinath required more deliveries to achieve it.
Among the 30 bowlers with at least 50 Test wickets in India, Bumrah stands out statistically, boasting the best average of 17.32. The only other bowler with more than 50 Test wickets in India and an average below 20 is former Australian leg-spinner Richard Benaud, who claimed 52 wickets at 18.38.
Bumrah’s overall Test record further elevates his status: he is the only bowler in Test history to have taken over 200 wickets at an average under 20, cementing his place among cricket’s elite fast bowlers.
