Jasprit Bumrah has been quite underwhelming in the fourth Test against India in Manchester, where he has sent down 28 overs and managed just a solitary wicket. This is sure to be Bumrah's final match of the series, as the management is keen on managing his workload, but will it also be one of his final appearances in whites for India?
Former India batter Mohammad Kaif believes so.
“According to me, Bumrah may quit Test cricket in the coming times. He is struggling with his body and due to this he may have to retire from Test cricket," Kaif said in a video posted on social media.
"His speed was not visible in this match, and he is a very self-respecting person. If he feels that he is not able to give 100 percent and is not able to take wickets, then he himself will refuse from playing."
Kaif further believes that Bumrah has lost fitness, which is not allowing him to bowl quicker. “Whether he gets wickets or not, but he was bowling at the speed of 125-130. In the ball on which he got a wicket, the keeper had to dive forward and catch it," Kaif noted.
“There is the same passion and dedication, but he has lost fitness. His body isn’t supporting him. His ineffectiveness in the Test is a clear indication, I think, that he could have difficulties in the future. First, Virat [Kohli], Rohit [Sharma], and [Ravichandran] Ashwin left. Now, I think fans should get used to seeing India without Bumrah."
India are staring at a massive defeat in the fourth Test as England have raced to a 186-run lead and still have three wickets in hand heading into Day 4. The hosts lead the five-match series 2-1.
