NEWSFollowing the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 final, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has rewarded the ground staff for providing excellent pitches across the 74 games of the tournament. The ground staff of the 10 regular home venues of the teams will receive INR 25 lakh, while the three additional venues in Guwahati, Dharamsala and Visakhapatnam will be awarded INR 10 lakh apiece.
"The unsung heroes of our successful T20 season are the incredible ground staff who worked tirelessly to provide brilliant pitches, even in difficult weather conditions," Shah wrote on X (Formerly Twitter).
"As a token of our appreciation, the groundsmen and curators at the 10 regular IPL venues will receive INR 25 lakhs each, and the same at the 3 additional venues will get INR 10 lakhs each. Thank you for your dedication and hard work!"
It was a high-scoring season indeed, with plenty of records broken during the course of the tournament. In fact, after the conclusion of the final, the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) was awarded the 'Pitch and Ground Award', a sum of INR 50 lakh to go with it.
IPL 2024 concluded with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in a low-scoring final in Chennai on May 26 (Sunday). SRH were bowled out for just 113 in the 19th over, largely thanks to some brilliant bowling from Mitchell Starc, Andre Russell and Vaibhav Arora. In reply, Venkatesh Iyer scored an unbeaten fifty as KKR attained the target in just 10.3 overs with eight wickets to spare.
