Even before he took over as the International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman, Jay Shah may already have a rule changed for him. In the recent ICC board meeting, it was decided that the term of the Chairman would be increased from two years to three.
Eventually, one chairman could only serve six years. Instead of serving three terms of two years each, they will now serve two terms of three years each. According to the ICC, the new rule has been "circulated for approval" among its members, both Full and Associate.
Shah, who was elected unopposed to the position of Chairman after New Zealand’s Greg Barclay decided not to go into election and pursue his third term, will take over on December 1. The position of Independent Director though has been lying vacant ever since Pepsico’s Indra Nooyi finished her three terms.
When the new rule gets approved by members of the ICC, the 35-year-old former BCCI Secretary could remain ICC Chairman till December 2030.
