India’s star batter Jemimah Rodrigues shared a light-hearted moment while recalling her memorable knock against Australia in the 2025 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup semi-final, joking that she wasn’t sure if the Aussies would even allow her to play in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2025.
The 25-year-old produced one of the finest innings in Indian women’s cricket history, smashing an unbeaten 127 off 134 balls to help India chase down a record target of 339 against Australia in the semi-final. The victory paved the way for India’s first-ever ICC Women’s World Cup title, as they went on to defeat South Africa in the final.
“I was not sure if Australia would allow me to cross the border after the semi-finals," Jemimah quipped while speaking to 7 Cricket, as reported by News18.
Despite her heroics against them, Rodrigues revealed she received a warm welcome from the Australian cricket community.
“But honestly, everyone has been so warm and welcoming, and everyone is so happy in general for the growth of women’s cricket. We know that it’s going to change the game massively, not just in India but all over the world.”
Rodrigues is representing Brisbane Heat in the WBBL 2025, but she and her team didn’t have the best start to their campaign - suffering a seven-wicket loss to Melbourne Renegades. The Mumbai-born right-hander managed just 6 off 9 balls before being dismissed by Alice Capsey.
Even so, Rodrigues’ light-hearted humour and infectious positivity continue to make her one of the most admired figures in women’s cricket - both on and off the field.
