Jess Jonassen, Marizanne Kapp have nerves of steel: Shikha Pandey

The DC duo stitched a crucial stand against RCB to take their side home

With 42 runs required off 33 deliveries, Delhi Capitals (DC) turned to Jess Jonassen and Marizanne Kapp to take them home against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). They did not disappoint as they put on an unbeaten 45-run stand to take their side home with six wickets and two deliveries to spare. Fast bowler Shikha Pandey had earlier bowled a superb spell, finishing with 3 for 23 to restrict RCB to 150 for 4.

Speaking of the match, Shikha said, "I knew that RCB would come hard at us and I wanted to embrace the occasion. I was proud of the catch I took to dismiss Heather Knight."

"At the halfway mark, I was very confident that we would win with two overs to spare. It got really tense towards the end as RCB bowled really well. There were a few nerves in the dressing room but we also had faith in our batters," the pacer further added.

She had high praise for Kapp and Jonassen, who not for the first time in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2023 played a key role in helping their side to a win.

"This match was a good learning curve for us. The team needs to know that it has the capability to win close games. Jess Jonassen and Marizanne Kapp have nerves of steel. They stayed calm and took us over the line," Shikha said.

DC, who have won four out of their five games in WPL 2023 so far, take on Gujarat Giants (GG) in their next game at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on Thursday (March 16).
