Jimmy Anderson set for comeback following international retirement: Reports

Anderson has not played any professional cricket since retiring from Test cricket in July 2024

Legendary fast bowler James Anderson retired from international cricket in July 2024 . It was after the first Test against West Indies at Lord's. He has not played any professional cricket since then, taking up a bowling consultant role for the senior Men’s side.

However, the 42-year-old is reportedly in line to make a comeback to professional cricket again.

Telegraph Cricket reports that Anderson is in talks with Lancashire about resuming his playing career this summer. According to the report, Anderson is not just eyeing playing County cricket for Lancashire but all three formats, including T20 cricket. Anderson last played T20 cricket in 2014.

“Anderson will attempt to combine playing with his duties as a bowling coach with the England Test team and various media commitments,” the report further claimed.

England’s next Test assignment is on May 22 against Zimbabwe, a four-day Test at home, so even if Anderson were to link up with the squad as part of the coaching team, he’d be able to play as many as five championship matches for Lancashire.

Despite retiring from international cricket, Anderson’s drive to play cricket professionally has not died down. He recently put his name up in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. Though the 42-year-old went unsold, it was a big sign of intent.
