Jitesh Sharma turned out to be quite impactful in his first outing after the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The wicketkeeper-batter added 43 off just 25 balls alongside Washington Sundar to take India home in the third T20I of the five-match series.
This was a series-levelling win at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart and gave India a chance to avenge the ODI series loss.
Speaking after his knock of an unbeaten 22 which came in just 13 balls, Jitesh thanked former India and Royal Challengers Bengaluru wicketkeeper-batter, Dinesh Karthik.
“When I got to know I was playing the next match, I was very excited because I was playing a game after many days. I was trying to stay as calm and composed as possible and do things under my control. Special thanks to Dinesh Karthik because he has worked a lot with me,” Jitesh told Star Sports, reported Indian Express.
“That’s why I was comfortable playing those shots. I just tried to show that I have come to dominate. I am a new batter, and it is my first match of the series. That does not mean I will take time. I showed good intent, and it made the run chase easy,” added Jitesh.
After his brilliant showing in the IPL, Jitesh got a call from Indian management and was drafted into the Asia Cup 2025 side, but could not get a game as Sanju Samson was the preferred choice as wicketkeeper-batter.
The former Vidarbha captain, Jitesh, was also given an added responsibility to lead the India A side in the Rising Stars Asia Cup, which will be played in Qatar from November 14 onwards.
