Jitesh Sharma To Lead India A In Rising Stars Asia Cup; Teen Prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi Also Included
The squad features a strong mix of IPL performers and domestic standouts
Wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma has been appointed captain of India A for the upcoming Asian Cricket Council’s Rising Stars Asia Cup, beginning November 14 in Doha, the BCCI’s senior men’s selection committee announced on November 4 (Tuesday). Punjab and Mumbai Indians’ all-rounder Naman Dhir will serve as his deputy.
The squad features a strong mix of IPL performers and domestic standouts, including 14-year-old sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Priyansh Arya, both of whom lit up the IPL 2025 in their debut seasons. Apart from the aforementioned four, Nehal Wadhera, Suryansh Shedge, Ramandeep Singh, Ashutosh Sharma, and Abhishek Porel are the other batters in the squad.
The pace attack will be spearheaded by Yash Thakur, Gurjapneet Singh, Vijay Kumar Vyshak, and Yudhvir Singh Charak, supported by all-rounders Dhir, Ramandeep, and Shedge. In the spin department, Harsh Dubey and Suyash Sharma have earned call-ups.
The standby list includes Gurnoor Singh Brar, Kumar Kushagra, Tanush Kotian, Sameer Rizvi, and Shaik Rasheed.
Jitesh, who recently featured in the third T20I against Australia on November 2, impressed with an unbeaten 22 off 13 balls. With the five-match series in Australia wrapping up on November 8, he could travel directly to Doha for the Rising Stars Asia Cup. Apart from Jitesh, Ramandeep is the only other player in the squad with international experience.
India A are placed in Group B alongside Pakistan A, UAE, and Oman. They will open their campaign against UAE on November 14, face Pakistan A on November 16, and conclude the group stage versus Oman on November 18.
The semi-finals will be held on November 21, followed by the final on November 23.
