Joe Root, on May 22 (Thursday), became the fifth batter in the history of Test cricket to go past 13000 runs.
The 34-year-old from England reached the milestone on day one of the one-off four-day Test against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
Sachin Tendulkar (15921), Ricky Ponting (13378), Jacques Kallis (13289) and Rahul Dravid (13288) are the only four batters with more runs than Root in red-ball cricket. The right-hander has 36 centuries and 65 fifties to his name.
Root scored 34 off 44 before falling to Blessing Muzarabani. He has 13006 runs in 280 innings at an impressive average of 50.8.
England are scheduled to play a five-match Test series against India, starting from June 20, and Root could easily go past Ponting, Kallis and Dravid before the end of series.
