Jos Buttler set to miss remainder of IPL to join England camp

Buttler, who will lead the defending champions in the T20 World Cup, has blown hot and cold in the ongoing IPL, having scored 359 runs at an average of 39.88

England skipper Jos Buttler won’t be taking any further part in the Indian Premier League 2024, as he decided to leave the camp after the clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 12, 2024 (Sunday).

The Royals lost the clash convincingly, but they are all set for a top-two finish in the league stage, thanks to their outstanding campaign in the first half of the tournament.

England are slated to play a four-match T20 International (T20I) series against Pakistan at home before leaving for the T20 World Cup. The series starts on May 22 in Leeds before concluding on May 30 at the Kennington Oval, London.

Buttler, who will lead the defending champions in the T20 World Cup, has blown hot and cold in the ongoing IPL, having scored 359 runs at an average of 39.88 with two centuries to his name. Barring those twin centuries, he hasn’t been able to take the IPL by storm.

Buttler led England to the T20 World Cup title in Melbourne in 2022 and will be aiming to add one more title to his kitty after the disastrous performance in the last ICC Men’s World Cup in India. England could secure only three wins from nine matches to end up in the seventh position on the points table.

Earlier, England all-rounder Liam Livingstone, who was part of the Punjab Kings (PBKS), also left India in advance in a bid to be fit for the World Cup. He is still not 100% fit after he injured his knee during the game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) last month and wants to get his knee "sorted" ahead of the marquee event.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have also announced that Will Jacks and Reece Topley have left the squad to join the England team. Even though it is not clear yet, other World Cup-bound England players have also left their respective IPL teams.
