Josh Little named in Ireland squad for ODI series against Bangladesh

The left-arm pacer will join the national side ahead of the first ODI on May 9 and will miss a couple of games for Gujarat Titans in the IPL

Ireland have announced a full-strength squad to lock horns against Bangladesh at home starting May 9 in their bid for automatic qualification for the ODI World Cup scheduled to commence in India this year.

Ireland need to register wins in all three matches to qualify for the mega event, and that is precisely the reason for the team management to include Joshua Little in the squad for a series at Chelmsford despite his IPL commitments.

The three-match ODI series will kickstart on May 9, and the last game is scheduled for May 14, meaning Little is set to miss the Titans' fixture against Lucknow Super Giants, Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The left-arm seamer is expected to join the national side after their away clash against the Rajasthan Royals on May 5 in order to prepare for the series.

In a press release, Andrew White, National Men’s Selector, said, "The senior squad has a more familiar look, with much of the squad having been part of the set-up in Zimbabwe (January) and Bangladesh (March) ODI fixtures. However, we welcome Craig Young back into the senior side after his long recovery from injury."

“We are pleased to also have the services of Josh Little, who has been playing in the IPL over the last month."

“After a tough tour to Bangladesh last month, the lads will be keen to show their talent and skills in more familiar conditions – and with potential world cup qualification on the line, they will need no additional motivation to succeed," he further added.

Ireland squad to play Bangladesh:

Andy Balbirnie (Captain), Mark Adair, Curtis Campher, Gareth Delany, George Dockrell, Stephen Doheny, Fionn Hand, Graham Hume, Josh Little, Andy McBrine, Paul Stirling, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker, Craig Young
