Nigar Sultana Joty will continue to lead the Bangladesh Women's squad for the Women’s World Cup 2025 was announced by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on August 23 (Saturday).
The announcement was made on a day when news of the Bangladesh women losing to the Under-15 national boys team came to the fore. It therefore makes the announcement timing a bit important in the sense that the board wants the team to perform better in the World Cup, which will be held in neighbouring India.
In the squad, the fresh faces include uncapped wicketkeeper-batter Rubya Haider Jhelik, off-spinner Nishita Akter Nishi and top-order batter Sumaiya Akter. While Rubaya has earned the call-up after persistently impressing the selectors, Nishita is the youngest member of the side.
"Rubya has earned her place through sheer hard work. Her development over the last six months has been outstanding. We see her as a valuable option both as a reserve keeper and a backup opener," Sazzad Ahmed Mansur, chief selector of BCB Women's Wing, was quoted as saying by Cricibuzz.
This will be Bangladesh Women’s second World Cup appearance ever, having previously played in the last edition in New Zealand in 2022. They qualified for the event by surpassing the West Indies in the global qualifiers played in Pakistan in April 2025.
Bangladesh will open their campaign against Pakistan in Sri Lanka on October 2.
