It was one of the rare instances when Stephen Fleming, head coach of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and one of the calmest heads in cricket, probably even calmer than MS Dhoni himself, lost it on March 28 (Friday).
This happened after his team’s batting came under heavy criticism following their 50-run loss to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Match 8 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
Asked as to why his batters don’t go all out from the first ball, the 51-year-old said, "We talk about firepower, we have firepower all the way through.
"I don't understand this question. Just because we don't swing from ball one and have a little bit of luck go away, we'll see at the end. Just see at the end who wins it [the title],” added a visibly upset-looking Fleming, who had earlier lamented the lack of home advantage at Chepauk, during the same press conference.
Saying that going from ball one is ‘a positive brand of cricket, no doubt’, Fleming asked the journalists present not to ‘discount us (CSK)’ before the season is over.
