Kagiso Rabada became only the third South African player to complete a double of 300 wickets and 1,000 Test runs. Rabada already had 319 wickets going into the first Test against Pakistan in Centurion, but his exploits down the order saw him go past 1,000 runs as well. As a result, he joins legends Shaun Pollock and Dale Steyn in this special double.
South African players with 300 wickets & 100 runs in Tests
Shaun Pollock - 3,781 runs & 421 wickets
Dale Steyn - 1,251 runs & 439 wickets
Kagiso Rabada - 1,024 runs & 321 wickets
Rabada, who went into this Test with 980 runs, scored 13 in the first innings and in the second innings, he scored an unbeaten 26-ball 31 to help the Proteas register a two-wicket victory, chasing 148.
South Africa were in a spot of bother when Rabada joined Marco Jansen in the middle. They needed 49 runs more to win the Test but had just two wickets in hand. The duo put on an unbeaten 51 off just 50 deliveries to break Pakistan's hearts.
During the innings, Rabada also became just one of four players to have scored 1,000 Test runs without scoring a fifty.
Players with 1,000 Test runs without a fifty:
Nathan Lyon - 1,586 runs, HS 47
Kemar Roach - 1,257 runs, HS 47
Kagiso Rabada - 1,024 runs, HS 47
Waqar Younis - 1,010 runs, HS 45
With this win, South Africa have reached their maiden World Test Championship (WTC) final, which will be played at Lord's in June 2025. Australia, India and Sri Lanka are the other contenders to make the summit clash.
