Pacer Kane Richardson, on Monday, has been ruled out of Australia's five-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. Richardson, who was flown as a cover for Mitchell Starc, suffered a severe hamstring injury and will be replaced by Scott Boland.
Starc, who accidentally sliced his left index finger few days ago, had required six stitches for the injury while allrounder Mitchell Marsh is out of the opening match on Tuesday due to a calf strain.
Richardson played 25 ODIs for Australia and claimed 39 wickets. The right-arm pacer last played a 50-over game for Australia in March, 2020 against South Africa. He played the three T20Is against Sri Lanka and claimed five wickets.
Boland, who made an impressive Test debut in this year's Ashes with 18 wickets from three matches, made his ODI debut back in 2016 and didn't get a national call-up since October of that year.
Australia skipper Aaron Finch said that Starc and Marsh might be available for the third ODI on June 19 at Colombo.
The first ODI between Sri Lanka and Australia will be played at Pallekele on Tuesday (June 14).
Australia XI for first ODI: Aaron Finch (C), David Warner, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Alex Carey (WK), Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Jhye Richardson, Josh Hazlewood.
