After smashing 89 off 40 deliveries against Mumbai Indians (MI) in his comeback match in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Delhi Capitals (DC)’s Karun Nair got run-out for a three-ball duck against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Match 32 of the IPL 2025 on April 16 (Wednesday).
The right-handed batter from Karnataka made his return to the IPL after 1076 days and took every MI bowler to the cleaners, including Jasprit Bumrah. The Capitals lost the match but Nair, who had a phenomenal domestic season, managed to stamp his authority.
Expectations were high when he walked out to bat against RR after Jofra Archer got rid of Jake Fraser-McGurk in the third over, however, things didn’t go as planned for Nair.
It was the first delivery of the fourth over, when Abishek Porel inside edged a pull shot onto his thigh pad and the ball went towards the point region. Porel made the call but soon decided against it.
Nair, however, was almost halfway down the crease, but still had enough time to get back to the crease. Wanindu Hasaranga sent in a throw to the bowler Sandeep Sharma who was slightly further away from the stumps at the non-striker’s end.
When Sandeep collected the throw, Nair slowed down a bit, which cost him his wicket. Sandeep also took a bit of time to hit the stumps, but it was enough to get rid of Nair. This was his fourth duck in the IPL, and coincidentally, all of them have been 3-ball ducks.
The Capitals have now lost six wickets via a run-out - the most in the IPL 2025. In the last match against MI, DC lost their last three wickets via a run-out and lost the game by 12 runs.
