The big news is that Karun Nair has returned to the Indian scheme of things, as the right-handed batter has been named in India A squad for England, on May 16 (Friday). Nair was at his absolute best in the last Ranji Trophy edition, where he amassed 863 runs at an average of 53.93.
Not just that, the Abhimanyu Easwaran-led side also has two more openers, in the form of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Alongside that, familiar names such as Dhruv Jurel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ishan Kishan and Shardul Thakur have also returned to the fold.
The Mumbai all-rounder, who was set to play for Essex, finally makes his comeback to the ‘A’ setup, and might even be named in the Indian squad based on his performance. On the other hand, the CSK duo of Anshul Kamboj and Khaleel Ahmed have been picked on the tour after missing out on the previous tour Down Under.
Mukesh Kumar, Akash Deep, Harshit Rana and Tushar Deshpande complete the pace bowling unit. The BCCI have also picked three spinners in the setup - Manav Suthar, Tanush Kotian and Harsh Dubey - ignoring Tamil Nadu’s Sai Kishore.
Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, however, are named in the squad from the second game onwards, given that the IPL is on.
