The Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvanathapuram was witness to an extraordinary assault today as hometown hero Sanju Samson lit up the 2025 Kerala Cricket League (KCL) with a 42-ball century against Aries Kollam Sailors, representing the Kochi Blue Tigers side led by his brother Saly Samson.
Opening the batting for Kochi, Samson hammered 13 fours and 5 sixes as he smashed the second ton of KCL 2025. The first century of the tournament was scored by Thrissur Titans’ Ahammed Imran against Calicut Globstars on August 23 (Saturday).
Samson ended with 121 off just 51 balls, and it was his knock that set up his side in a mammoth chase of 237. Samson’s knock gave Kochi hope, and an extraordinary finish saw Muhammad Ashik smash a six off the final ball of the match (with 6 off 1 ball needed) to seal an unlikely, thrilling win for the Kochi Blue Tigers.
This was a much-needed knock for Samson after his KCL 2025 got off to a false start against Alleppey Ripples, where he scored 13 off 22 balls before perishing to the bowling of Jalaj Saxena.
With the win today, powered by Samson, Kochi Blue Tigers have gotten off to the perfect start in KCL 2025, winning each of their first three matches.
