India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has been roped in by Kent for the remainder of the County Championship season. Chahal will be available for home games against Nottinghamshire and Lancashire and the away fixture against Somerset. Recently, he was not picked in the Indian squad for the Asia Cup and also the home ODI World Cup.
The 33-year-old has picked has played over 150 white-ball matches for India, picking up 217 wickets for them. This will be his maiden stint in County cricket.
"This is an exciting challenge for me, playing in English county cricket, and one I'm very much looking forward to," Chahal said.
Chahal will be the second Indian to feature for Kent this season. Previously, left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh represented the side in June and July.
Chahal came into the picture as Kent did not have the services of leg-spinner Matt Parkinson until next year, and off-spinner Hamid Qadri was out injured.
"We're delighted to have secured a spinner of Yuzvendra's quality for the last three Championship matches of the season, with Matt Parkinson not available to us until next year, and Hami Qadri recently injured," Paul Downton, Kent's director of cricket, said.
"He is really looking forward to playing in English conditions and will bring a significant amount of skill and international experience to our squad."
Chahal played last of his 33 first-class matches in December 2022. He has 83 wickets at 35.25 in the format.
