Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) president Jayesh George has been named the Women's Premier League's (WPL) first-ever chairman. The decision was taken in BCCI's Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Mumbai on September 28 (Sunday), where former Delhi cricketer Mithun Manhas was also named as the new BCCI president, as expected.
In the AGM, Rajeev Shukla was declared the Vice-President, Devajit Saikia was elected Secretary, while Prabhtej Singh Bhatia took charge as the Joint-Secretary, along with A Raghuram Bhat, who will serve as the treasurer of the board.
"As the country celebrates Navratri, a festival that honours women's power, receiving this position at such a time brings me immense joy. I thank the BCCI for placing their trust in me and the Kerala Cricket Association for their support. I will strive to make the Women's Premier League better and to provide new opportunities for women cricketers," George said upon his appointment.
George started his career in cricket administration as the secretary of Ernakulam District Association, before donning hats of joint-secretary, treasurer, secretary and more recently as the president of the KCA.
He has been regarded as a key figure behind the success of the Kerala Cricket League (KCL) as well. His contributions to Kerala cricket have been crucial, and his experience is expected to be vital for the smooth functioning of the WPL as well.
