After Five-Wicket Haul vs Australia, Keshav Maharaj Becomes Number 1 Ranked ODI Bowler
Maharaj reaped the rewards of his fifer in the first ODI against Australia on Tuesday
South African left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj attained the number one ranking amongst bowlers in the latest update of the ICC’s ODI ranking.
Maharaj achieved the milestone after he picked up 5/33 in the first ODI against Australia in Cairns, which also helped the Proteas register a 98-run victory over the hosts and notch up a 1-0 lead in the bilateral series. After that performance, he moved ahead of Maheesha Theekshana and Kuldeep Yadav, who are in second and third spots, respectively.
Meanwhile, Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma also moved to the 21st and 23rd spots respectively in batter rankings after they scored half-centuries in the first ODI against Australia.
Shai Hope of the West Indies was the other one who gained two ranking spots and reached number nine after he ended the series against Pakistan as the leading run-scorer, and helped West Indies win an ODI series against Pakistan after 34 overs.
In T20I batters, Dewald Brevis gained nine ranking spots and reached a career-best 12th after his exploits in the T20I series against Australia, where he scored a century as well along with a half-century.
