All-rounder Kevin Sinclair receives his maiden Test call-up for the second Test between West Indies and India set to be played in Trinidad from Thursday (July 20). The off-spin bowling all-rounder comes in for Raymon Reifer, who batted at three in the first Test at Dominica, and will continue to be part of the squad as an injury cover.
23-year-old Sinclair, who has picked up 15 wickets in 13 white-ball matches for the West Indies has 54 first-class wickets at 23.98. With bat in hand, he has slammed six fifties in 30 innings, accumulating 756 at 29.07 overall. His inclusion certainly strengthens West Indies' spin-bowling alongside Rakheem Cornwall and Jomel Warrican, who played in West Indies' heavy defeat in the first Test that ended in just three days.
Sinclair impressed in the three red-ball matches for West Indies A against Bangladesh A, finishing as the leading wicket-taker with 13 scalps at 25.69 as his side went on to win 1-0. He also smashed 149 runs at 49.66, including a couple of fifties.
Most recently, the Guyana-born all-rounder was part of the World Cup Qualifiers, where he picked up a couple of wickets in three matches as West Indies failed to make it to the main draw.
West Indies have made no more changes to their squad. With Reifer out, everyone barring the openers will bat one spot higher. Sinclair is expected to slot in below Jason Holder, unless the hosts decide to hand batter Kirk McKenzie a debut.
The second Test at Port of Spain will also mark the 100th Test between India and West Indies. The two teams first met back in 1948 in Delhi.
West Indies squad for second Test: Kraigg Brathwaite (c), Jermaine Blackwood (vc), Alick Athanaze, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Rahkeem Cornwall, Joshua Da Silva (wk), Shannon Gabriel, Jason Holder, Alzarri Joseph, Kirk McKenzie, Kevin Sinclair, Kemar Roach, Jomel Warrican
