West Indies allrounder Kieron Pollard took to social media on Wednesday to announce his shock retirement from international cricket.
Pollard, who was Windies' limited-overs captain, has played 123 ODIs and 101 T20Is and scored 4,275 runs across the both formats.
The allrounder made his debut for West Indies in the inaugural 2007 T20 World Cup against South Africa and last played a white-ball game against India in February this year.
The Trinidadian was made West Indies' limited-overs captain after 2019 ODI World Cup and led them in 39 T20Is and 24 ODIs.
In March, 2021, Pollard became the third batter in international cricket and second batter in T20Is to hit six sixes in an over against Sri Lanka.
"After careful deliberation I've today decided to retire from international cricket. As is the case of many young persons it was a dream of mine to represent the West Indies team from the time I was a boy of 10 years and I'm proud to have represented West Indies cricket for over 15 yeas in both the T20 and ODI forms of the game," Pollard said in a video on Instagram.
"I can still vividly remember making my international debut in 2007 under the leadership of my childhood hero, Brian Lara. Wearing those maroon colours and playing alongside such greats has been a privilege that I never took lightly, soul in every facet of the game - whether bowling, batting or fielding."
Pollard is currently playing in the Indian Premier League with Mumbai Indians.
