Follow UsIn the latest development from the IPL circle, Kolkata Knight Riders have announced Shreyas Iyer as their new captain, replacing Eoin Morgan from the previous season. Iyer was the most expensive purchase for Kolkata in the recently concluded IPL 2022 auction - bought at a whopping INR 12.25 crore.
However, it was not a surprise as three franchise went without a captain and Iyer was fitting the bill perfectly courtesy of leading the Delhi Capitals for several seasons. Leading Delhi in two full seasons, Iyer took the side to the play-offs on both occasions, including their first final in 2020. He was also one of the two premier Indian batters available in the auction which was another skill set Kolkata was hunting for in the auction. Hence, it was quite irrefutable that Kolkata was ready to break their bank to sign Iyer.
