In Match 40 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 22 (Tuesday), Delhi Capitals (DC)’s KL Rahul became the fastest to 5,000 runs in tournament history.
Rahul scored 57* off 42 against his former franchise and crossed the 5,000-run mark in his 130th innings, breaking David Warner’s record (135 innings). Overall, Rahul becomes the eighth batter and the sixth Indian to breach the 5,000-run mark in the IPL.

Chasing a target of 160 against LSG, Abishek Porel (51 off 36) got DC off to a solid start before Rahul and Axar Patel (34 off 20) took over and only left the field once the job was done. The two put on an unbeaten stand of 56 runs for the third wicket.
Both Rahul and DC have been in phenomenal form in the IPL 2025. Rahul has slammed 323 runs in seven innings at an average of 64.6 and a strike rate of 153.8, while his team have now won six of their eight fixtures and are a couple of wins away from qualifying for the playoffs.
