Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc was full of praise for his new Delhi Capitals (DC) teammate KL Rahul, calling him the 'Mr Fix it' of the Indian team given that he has successfully donned many hats for his country over the past few years.
In India's successful Champions Trophy campaign, along with keeping wickets, Rahul also batted at No. 6, donning the role of a finisher. He ended the tournament with 140 runs from four innings at an impressive strike rate of nearly 98 and was dismissed just once.
"KL Rahul is like Mr Fix-it for India - He has opened the batting when asked to, batted at Number 6, Kept, fielded, batted in the middle order - he has done just about everything, he has played vital roles, excited to play alongside him," said Starc on the Fanatics TV Youtube channel.
While Rahul has batted in the top order throughout his career, he said he was happy to bat lower for the team's benefit.
"I have grown up playing in the top order. From my first competitive match in Mangalore at the age of 11 to my early days playing for India, and for most of my career, I have been a top-order batter. It is the position I am most comfortable in and the one that feels most natural to me," Rahul said on JioHotstar
"That said, when you play a team sport, you don't always get to choose what you want. You have to be flexible and willing to adapt to the team's needs. Over the years, I've learned to embrace that and give my best in whichever role I'm assigned."
Rahul, who has led Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) will play under Axar Patel at DC. DC begin their IPL 2025 campaign against LSG on March 24 in Visakhapatnam.
