NEWSUnder Rahul's captaincy, Punjab Kings exited IPL 2021 in the group stage
KL Rahul may not play for Punjab Kings next year and is likely to feature in the auction after being approached by few franchises, Cricbuzz reported on Monday.
A franchise can make use of its Right To Match (RTM) cards to retain its current players. The report said that Rahul's parting with the Kings is an amicable one as the franchise has denied claims of any talks behind the scenes.
With the two more franchises set to be added to the IPL roster, teams have been grappling with uncertainty about BCCI's player-retention policies for the upcoming season. Recently, Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni said he was unsure if he was going to play next season citing the same.
Punjab Kings finished sixth in the table and fell short of play-offs a spot despite beating CSK by six wickets in their final league stage match. Rahul is currently the Orange Cap holder with 626 runs from 13 innings at an average of 62.60.
The report also said that Harshal Patel, Venkatesh Iyer and Shivam Mavi are most likely to remain in Dubai and join India's T20 World Cup bio-bubble to support the training. With India's campaign set to begin on October 23, they still have time till October 16 to make changes to their squad.
