KL Rahul continued to make history as the Delhi Capitals’ batter smashed a century off 60 balls against Gujarat Titans on May 18 (Sunday), his first century for the franchise. What’s the record that he set? Rahul became the first batter in IPL history to score centuries for three different franchises.
Rahul’s first century in IPL came for Punjab Kings, a franchise where he spent four years and scored 2548 runs. It was during that time that the right-hander had his best time in the competition, smashing 23 half-centuries and two centuries. The 33-year-old then moved to Lucknow Super Giants, where he scored two more centuries.
At Delhi Capitals, Rahul’s role shifted, as the right-hander began IPL 2025 playing in the middle-order. But his best for the franchise, ironically, came as an opener, with Rahul scoring a 60-ball century after being moved up the order. Prior to this, he was one of the three players to have scored centuries for multiple IPL centuries, and he added to that.
Ultimately, the 33-year-old finished his innings unbeaten on 112 off 65 balls, which also happened to be the highest score for a batter against GT. Not just that, Rahul became the first right-hander to score a century in IPL 2025. It was the first century for a DC batter since 2020, when Shikhar Dhawan crossed the three-figure mark in consecutive games (vs CSK and PBKS).
