He entered the second Test in Kanpur under serious pressure on the back of his failure in the first innings in Chennai, but KL Rahul answered his critics in style. On Day 4 of the second Test against Bangladesh, the right-hander smashed his fastest fifty in Test cricket.
Prior to this Test, Rahul had never scored a fifty quicker than run-a-ball in Tests. But in Kanpur, the 32-year-old got to his half century off just 33 balls, smashing six fours and a six in the process.
Fastest fifty for KL Rahul in Tests
33 balls vs BAN, Kanpur, 2024
57 balls vs ENG, The Oval, 2018
58 balls vs WI, Kingston, 2016
61 balls vs AFG, Bengaluru, 2018
64 balls vs WI, St Lucia, 2016
Rahul recorded his personal best on a day where India piled on batting records.
First, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma helped the team post the fastest fifty in Test history, with India breaching the 50-run mark in just 3 overs. After that, they posted the fastest 100 in Tests as they got to the three-figure mark in just 10.1 overs.
Then in the 25th over of their innings, India posted the fastest 200 in Test history. Kohli brought up the same with a six on the second ball of the over, which was bowled by Taijul Islam.
The aggressive approach by India is a by-product of them trying to win the race against time and force a result in the Test that looks headed for a draw.
