KL Rahul could be seen batting in the middle-order for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, starting on March 23 (Saturday), reported the Times of India. The Capitals bought Rahul for INR 14 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Rahul has 123 innings in the IPL and 99 of those have come as an opener. The right-handed batter from Karnataka averages 48.64 and has a strike rate of 136.9 as an opener. In 24 innings as a non-opener in the IPL, Rahul has scored only 500 runs @ 29.41 and a strike rate of 117.9.
DC vice-captain Faf du Plessis, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abishek Porel could form Delhi’s top-order, with skipper Axar Patel, Rahul, Tristan Stubbs and Sameer Rizvi batting in the middle.
If it happens, this is not the first time Rahul will be compromising on his preferred batting slot. In fact, this is what he has been doing for India since making his international debut in 2014.
Rahul has opened, batted in the middle-order and played as a finisher for India in both red and white-ball cricket. The 32-year-old has also kept wickets whenever his team has needed him to.
Even in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which India won by defeating New Zealand in the final, Rahul gave up his No.5 spot to Axar for the betterment of the team and played as a finisher.
DC will start their IPL 2025 campaign against Rahul’s former team Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Visakhapatnam on March 24 (Monday).
