KL Rahul is set to be rested for the white-ball series against England, starting on January 22, reported the Times of India. The Men in Blue are scheduled to play five T20Is and three ODIs against England before the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Rahul last played a T20I in November 2022 but has been a regular member of the Indian ODI set-up. According to the report, the selectors have assured him of a spot in India’s Champions Trophy squad.
Rahul, who featured in all five Tests in Australia, has been India’s frontline wicketkeeper-batter in the 50-over set-up. In 26 ODIs innings since 2023, the right-hander has slammed 1091 runs at an average of 60.61 and a strike rate of 87.1.
“Rahul has been assured of his spot in the Champions Trophy. Hence, he will be rested from the England series,” a source tracking developments told the TOI.
The three ODIs will be played on February 6, 9 and 12 respectively. Meanwhile, the Champions Trophy will get underway on February 19. Rahul and Rishabh Pant are likely to be the two wicketkeeper-batters in the Indian squad, but there’s no guarantee on who will feature in the XI.
