The kind of series that KL Rahul is having on India's tour of England in 2025 is unprecedented as far as his Test career is concerned. The batter has already scored 511 runs in the first four Tests, and it is the first time that he has crossed the 500-run barrier in a Test series.
How has he been able to do so? What has changed? Former England captain Nasser Hussain tried to decode it. He said that he had met Rahul before the tour, and the batter had told him about a ‘little book’ that he maintains and prepares from before the start of every series.
“I spoke to him in India when I went out. He was doing his shoot with one of his sponsors. I asked, ‘When will you start preparing?’ He said, ‘I’m going to get my little book out’. He’s a very good note-taker,” Hussain said, as quoted by the Indian Express.
“[Rahul] said he would look back at the notes he made on the previous tour of England and come early and just remind himself of what he did on the last tour when he had some success. And he has repeated it on this tour,” Nasser added.
Former India wicketkeeper-batter, Parthiv Patel, was also all praise for Rahul for the brilliant consistency that he has shown with the bat in this series.
“I think the way KL Rahul has batted throughout this series has been impressive. In the past, we'd often seen him start a series well but struggled to maintain that form. This time, however, he has shown remarkable consistency and batted with great responsibility,” Parthiv said.
Rahul, in fact, could become the Indian opener with the most runs in a Test series in England. Before the start of the fifth Test, the Karnataka man was only 31 short of Sunil Gavaskar’s tally of 542 runs.
