Romario Shepherd pulled off a spectacle at the Indian Premier League (IPL), smashing a 14-ball half-century against Chennai Super Kings, on May 3 (Saturday), the joint-second-fastest fifty in the tournament's history.
The right-hander was at his absolute best against Khaleel Ahmed, smashing 33 runs off the 19th over. In the aftermath of that swashbuckling innings, Shepherd revealed that he knew that the left-arm seamer was under pressure after the first two hits.
"When I hit the first two, I knew I had the bowler under pressure," Shepherd said in the post-match press conference.
"I saw his body language, so I was like, okay, let me try and put you under some more pressure and continue going, continue going," he added.
Across the last two overs, the all-rounder smashed the five-time IPL champions, scoring 53 out of the 54 possible runs. The right-hander revealed that he was aware of CSK’s plans and just had to counter them.
"When I walked to the crease, I had an idea of what they were trying to bowl, so I got there prepared for that.”
"And then Timmy told me just to hold my shape a bit because it was gripping in the wicket. So my mindset automatically changed to just base up and, you know, watch the ball as it comes and try and hit in my areas and don't try and swing before, swing too early," he added.
As it turned out, Shepherd’s cameo was the major reason why RCB won the clash against CSK by two runs.
