LA28: Which Venue Will Host Cricket At The Olympics?
Cricket will return to the Olympics for the first time since 1900
Recently, it was announced that cricket, which is returning to the Olympics for the first time since 1900, will have six men's and women's teams. Each squad will also be allowed to announce a 15-member team that will participate at the event, though the qualifying process is yet to be determined.
The ICC announced on April 15 (Tuesday) that cricket will be hosted at a temporary venue at Fairgrounds in Pomona, Southern California, about 50 km east of Los Angeles.
"We welcome the announcement of the venue for cricket at Los Angeles 2028 as it is a significant step towards the preparation for our sport's return to the Olympics," Jay Shah, the ICC chair, said.
"Although cricket is a hugely popular sport, it will be a fantastic opportunity to expand traditional boundaries when it features in the Olympics in the fast-paced, exciting T20 format that should appeal to new audiences."
Other than cricket, baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse (sixes), and squash are some of the new sports that will be on display at the Olympics.
Cricket is also expected to be part of the 2032 Olympics in Brisbane. If it happens, the iconic Gabba stadium will also be demolished following the final.
