Lahore-Multan PSL 2023 playoff game to go ahead despite unrest

The situation in Lahore continues to be tense following the stand-off between Imran Khan and the police in Lahore

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023 Qualifier match between Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans will go ahead as planned, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have announced. There were some doubts over the match going ahead following Imran Khan's arrest at Zaman Park, Lahore which created a tense situation. Full Scorecard: Lahore Qalandars vs Multan Sultan, Qualifier 1

"The PSL8 Qualifier in Lahore today will be played at the Gaddafi Stadium as scheduled," tweeted the cricket's governing body in Pakistan.

Following the court's order to arrest the former Pakistan skipper Imran Khan, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief, the situation has been tense in Lahore.

Lahore Qalandars are scheduled to take on Multan Sultan at the Gadaffi Stadium later today (March 15). The winner of the match will enter the PSL final directly, while the losing side will take on the winner of the Eliminator between Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United on Friday (March 17).

Both Lahore and Multan had to cancel their practice session on Tuesday (March 14) due to the unrest.  “I am delighted with the consistency my team has shown in this edition. This team’s foundation is laid on the values of brotherhood and the way everyone backs and supports each other in the field is just a reflection of that,” Lahore captain Shaheen Afridi said before the match.

“We are very thankful to our fans for their continuous support. We have seen houseful matches in Home of Qalandars where the crowd turns out in large numbers to support us. We cannot wait to repay their faith with another title,” he added.
