Lasith Malinga joins Mumbai Indians as bowling coach

The Lankan pacer is also the bowling coach of MI Cape Town in the SA20 league and MI New York in Major League Cricket, USA

After spending a year with Rajasthan Royals, Lasith Malinga returns to his spiritual IPL home, as Mumbai Indians have snapped him up as the bowling coach of the side for IPL 2024. While Mark Boucher will be the head coach of the side, Malinga's ex-Mumbai Indians teammate, Kieron Pollard, will continue to be the batting coach of the five-time champions.

"It is truly an honour for me to be appointed Bowling Coach of Mumbai Indians and my journey in the OneFamily continues, following MI New York and MI Cape Town," said Malinga in a statement. 

"I am looking forward to working closely with Mark, Polly, Rohit, and the rest of the team, especially the bowling unit, whose approach I loved last season, and the young MI talent that has the potential to excel, backed by the passionate MI Paltan."

After joining Mumbai Indians in 2008, Malinga continued with the franchise till 2019, in which he helped Mumbai Indians win the title for the fourth time. He was also the bowling coach before parting ways in 2022. His return to the franchise once again truly completes his assignments across the MI universe, as the Lankan pacer is also the bowling coach of MI Cape Town in the SA20 league and MI New York in Major League Cricket, USA.
