England announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup 2024 on Tuesday (August 27). The side will be led by Heather Knight. There was no place for Lauren Filer, but Freya Kemp and Danielle Gibson have been picked for the first time at the T20 World Cup. Gibson was part of the team in 2023 as a travelling reserve.
Out of the 15 selected, 12 were part of the previous World Cup held in South Africa. Lauren Winfield-Hill, Kate Cross and Katherine Sciver-Brunt (retired) are the ones missing this time around.
England's squad is similar to the one they had during the T20 Internationals (T20I) against New Zealand, except for Flier. The pacer will, however, participate in the preparation camp in Abu Dhabi between September 13 and 24.
Speaking of the squad, Knight, who is set to lead England in a T20 World Cup for the fourth time said, "World Cups are always special events to be involved in as a player and I'm really excited by the squad we have selected to take over to the UAE. It's an honour to lead the team into another World Cup. We're looking forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead."
Head coach Jon Lewis said that the overlooked players will surely have a part to play in the future. "I feel the 15 players selected give us a really well-balanced squad in terms of experience, youth, and most importantly, the skills to cope and excel in the conditions we feel we will be faced with in the UAE," he said.
England are part of Group B, and they will take on Bangladesh in their opening match on October 5 in Sharjah.
