South Africa fast bowler Lungi Ngidi had a mixed season for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. He started off well with a three-wicket haul, but got smashed for 56 runs against Rajasthan Royals (RR) after which he did not play for more than a month. However, when he returned, he picked up five more wickets in two matches as CSK failed to make it to the playoffs for the first time in their history.
Talking about his experience this season, the 24-year-old feels that he learnt a lot more this season than the previous one, which was also his first season in the IPL.
"I learnt a lot more this year than I did in the first season. Did pretty decently in the first season but this year was a bit more challenging. Had a few games at the start didn't go the way I wanted to but I was able to work on a few things in the nets and finally got the opportunity again at the back end. Happy to come away with at least a couple of sticks. So, yeah a lot of learnings happened this year," Ngidi told teammate Faf du Plessis during a chat for IPLT20.com.
Ngidi was bought by CSK in the 2018 auction for his base price of INR 50 lakh. He picked up 11 wickets from seven matches in his debut season, but missed the next one due to a side strain. He added nine more to his wickets tally this season.
Ngidi will now hope to be a part of the Proteas squad for the upcoming limited-overs series against England at home, beginning with the T20I series on November 27.
