14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi created history with a six off his first ball on Indian Premier League (IPL) debut against Lucknow Super Giants, on April 19 (Saturday). The left-hander, who already made history as the youngest-ever IPL debutant, smashed a six off his first ball to join a unique list.
Suryavanshi became the first batter in almost six years to smash a six off the first ball after Siddhesh Lad, who did it against Punjab Kings in 2019. Despite it being just his second T20 game, the left-hander showed no signs of nerves, with a pristine six through the cover region, almost smashing the car.
His 20-ball 34 caught the attention of English wicketkeeper batter Sam Billings, who compared the 14-year-old’s bat swing to prime Yuvraj Singh.
"This is utterly absurd!!!!! 14! First ball. Look at the bat swing too, like prime Yuvi…wow."
Across his two T20 games, the left-hander has already made an early impression on everyone, with a strike rate of 180.76, scoring 47 runs.
