Litton Das added to Bangladesh squad ahead of Asia Cup 2023 Super Fours

The wicketkeeper-batter was initially not named in the squad as he was ill

After being left out of the initial Asia Cup 2023 squad due to illness, Litton Das has been added to the Bangladesh squad and has joined the team in Lahore ahead of the Super Fours. Litton is believed to have been added to the squad following a few injury concerns.

Najmul Hossain Shanto held his hamstring a couple of times during his ton against Afghanistan, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who retired hurt due to a finger injury during his century, is also a concern. Fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman too, is believed to have picked up a niggle against Sri Lanka and, as a result, was unavailable for the tie against Afghanistan.

"The Asia Cup squad has a few injury concerns, and the team management felt the need for an additional player going into the Super Four," Bangladesh chief selector Minhajul Abedin said.

"We have received the BCB medical team's clearance regarding Litton's health and have decided to send him to Pakistan."

Despite losing to Sri Lanka by five wickets in their first game in Pallekele, Bangladesh bounced back well to beat Afghanistan by 89 runs in Lahore to book their place in the Super Fours.

The big win against Afghanistan took Bangladesh's run rate ahead of Sri Lanka, meaning they were assured of a place in the Super Four. Sri Lanka will face Afghanistan in Lahore on Tuesday (September 5) for the remaining Super Four slot from the group.
