Kolkata Knight Riders confirmed that Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das has indeed travelled back to Bangladesh, due to a family emergency.
“Litton Das has had to return to Bangladesh earlier today (Friday 28 April) due to an urgent family medical emergency. Our wishes go out to him and his family to make it through this difficult time,” said KKR in an official statement.
Litton entered his maiden IPL season on the back of consistent performances. In 2023, he had scored 229 runs at a strike rate of 159 and an average of nearly 40.
The 28-year-old made his IPL debut against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, just over a week ago. He managed to score only four runs on debut. While he may not have set the stage on fire, Litton's absence will be a blow to the franchise. He was one of only three keeping options in the KKR squad.
With Jason Roy having all but cemented his position at the top, Litton's absence means that KKR will be forced to pair the Englishman with N Jagadeesan for the foreseeable future.
Kolkata next take on the visiting Gujarat Titans tomorrow, 29th April, at Eden Gardens. This is the second time they are playing each other, this season. In the reverse fixture at Narendra Modi Stadium, Rinku Singh produced a once-in-a-lifetime innings to pull off a heist against the shell-shocked Titans.
