Mohammad Rizwan (Multan skipper)
"Every team tries to win, and the toss is not in our hands, so we didn't think about the uncontrollables. We just gave our best and ended up on the winning side."

Rilee Rossouw (Player of the Match)
"We wanted to play brave cricket, and it paid off for me and the team. That's what the coach and the captain decided on for the team in the team meetings. Glad it worked out for us."

Imad Wasim (Karachi captain)
"They bowled well, perhaps we could have gone hard at the top, but credit to them - they bowled according to the plan and executed it well. There was nothing wrong with the way we played, Babar is a class player and he usually does well for us. It was a good wicket, I thought we did well to restrict them under 180 with the way they started. Thought the powerplay was the key in both parts of the match."

Multan back on track?
Chasing a target of 177, Karachi never looked in the game! Babar Azam did score 85* off 63 deliveries but was very slow with his approach in the first 15 overs. Chadwick Walton (23-ball 35) tried his best but was left with too much to do. Imran Khan and Imran Tahir picked up five wickets between them, while Sohail Tanvir and Sohail Khan too bowled with pretty good control. The bowling unit of Multan didn't do the job in the first half of the tournament but the management would be glad with the way they have defended this total. They get their second win of the season, while Karachi have now lost three of their six games. They will have to change their batting approach going forward. Azam and other batsmen can't afford to be so defensive in the first 10 overs. Meanwhile, earlier, Multan lost Rahmanullah Gurbaz in the very first over but Sohaib Maqsood (14-ball 31) walked out all guns blazing and got his team off to a fiery start. Mohammad Rizwan (23-ball 29) and Rilee Rossouw (24-ball 44) then put on 68 runs for the third wicket and Multan were 107/2 at the end of 10 overs. It looked like they would easily go past 200 but that's when Thisara Perera (2/12) took over and Multan lost three wickets in no time. They only managed 41 runs in the next eight overs, but Khushdil (32-ball 44*) played a superb knock and smacked Amir for 19 runs in the final over to give his team some momentum.

What a win for Multan
Well, it was never going to be easy for the new man and Perera was dismissed for a two-ball duck. The left-hander was caught at long-on and for some reason, Azam didn't even cross the batsman and couldn't get back on strike. Imad Wasim was the next batsman in but was dismissed on the very first delivery. Debutant Qasim Akram blasted a four and a six before perishing on the final delivery. This is a quality win and will give Multan a lot of confidence.

23 needed off six
The two batters have somehow managed to keep Karachi alive till the last over. Azam smashed Sohail Khan for a four and a six in the first two deliveries of the penultimate over but the paceman made a good comeback and conceded only three runs in the last four balls. On top of that, Walton was run out. The Kings need 23 and they have Azam and Perera at the crease.

Not a great outing for Dhani
The young paceman impressed everyone in the first half of the tournament but has failed to hit the right line and length tonight. He was too short against Azam and was hit for two sixes in his first three overs. Now, bowling the crucial over, Dhani failed to bowl according to the field and was smashed for three fours by Walton. The West Indian first scooped him for back-to-back boundaries and then slogged one towards deep mid-wicket to get 14 runs from the over. 36 needed off 12!

62 needed off 24
Azam has smoked two sixes in two overs, but is it too late now? The stylish right-hander slammed Dhani and Tahir for a maximum each over long-on but despite that couldn't match the required rate. He would have been stumped off Tahir but Rizwan couldn't get the job done behind the stumps. Karachi will have to come up with something extraordinary if they want to win this game.

50 up for Azam
The Pakistan captain brings up his 18th PSL fifty but it has taken him 45 deliveries. This is his second slowest fifty in the history of the tournament. He will have to turn things around, or else Karachi are going to fall way short of the target. 85 needed off 36 deliveries!

Another one for Tahir
The legspinner might be 42 but is still one of the best in the business. Zadran had to play his shots and tried to reverse sweep Tahir but couldn't get any bat to it. He was pinned right in front of the stumps and given out lbw. Tahir only played one game in the first half of the tournament but is playing ahead of Usman Qadir tonight. This is becoming more and more difficult for Karachi and Azam's knock is making things worse for them. The required rate has gone up to 12.5!

Shot, Zadran!
Sohail Tanvir comes back into the attack but starts with a half-volley and Zadran greets him by smoking his first delivery for a massive six down the ground. Karachi will need a lot of those if they want to chase down this total.

Knocked over!
Just when Azam and Guptill were starting to accelerate, the latter has been knocked over by Tahir. The two batters managed four boundaries in the last three overs but before the partnership could get dangerous, Tahir has knocked over Guptll with a wrong'un. The right-hander from New Zealand came down the track but was outfoxed by the legspinner. More pressure on Azam now as Karachi need 115 runs in 60 deliveries. Najibullah Zadran is the new man in.

Tidy stuff from Multan fast bowlers
Sohail Khan, Sohail Tanvir and Imran Khan were outstanding in the powerplay and haven't allowed Azam to dictate terms. The Pakistan skipper did manage a six off Shahnawaz Dhani but that too wasn't properly controlled. The required run-rate has gone up over 10 and Imran Tahir is yet to bowl. Azam and Guptill will have to up the ante before it gets too late.

Unfortunate dismissal for Sharjeel
The two openers struggled to get going, and on top of that, Sharjeel has been run out in an unfortunate fashion. Azam hit one straight towards the bowler but the ball flicked Imran Khan's finger and hit the stumps at the non-striker's end. Sharjeel was way outside the crease and will have to go back after scoring just 4. Meanwhile, Azam has looked rusty and only managed 9 off 18 deliveries so far.

The Sharjeel-Azam combo
The two openers scored the majority of the runs for Karachi in the first half of the tournament and it will be interesting to see how they go about their business tonight. Sharjeel is the aggressive one but the left-hander is not a great runner. Just because of him, Azam missed out on a couple of singles and wasn't too impressed. But again, they are the most successful pair in the history of PSL, so you know they have got a method that works for both of them.

Enough runs on the board?
Multan lost Rahmanullah Gurbaz in the very first over but Sohaib Maqsood (14-ball 31) walked out all guns blazing and got his team off to a fiery start.

A much-needed push from Khushdil
Amir was outstanding with his yorkers in the 18th over but Khushdil got the better of him in the final over and accumulated 19 runs off it. It was Sohail Tanvir who hit the first boundary via an inside edge and then Khushdil took over. The left-hander clobbered the slower delivery for a six over long-on and then finished the innings with consecutive fours.

Finally! After 38 deliveries, Multan have managed to hit a boundary and it's Khushdil Shah who whacked Waqas Maqsood for a six over deep mid-wicket. Multan would want him to stay there till the very end. Multan were smashing boundaries for fun in the first half of the innings but have allowed Karachi to take control of the game in the last six overs. If Khushdil carried on, Multan could get close to that 170-run mark.

What a comeback!
Multan were 107/2 at the end of 10 overs but have only managed 23 in the next five overs and have lost three massive wickets. After getting rid of Rossouw, Thisara Perera bowled a well-directed bouncer to Hetmyer who went for the pull but ended up top-edging it to the fielder at deep square leg. Not a great debut for the left-hander from West Indies as he departs for just 7. Multan will have to careful here, they don't have enough depth in the batting line-up.

Karachi are back in the game
What is happening! Multan have lost Rossouw and Rizwan in the space of three deliveries and Karachi will now look to take control of the game. Rizwan has been run out, thanks to the brilliance of Zadran. The wicketkeeper-batsman worked Perera behind point and wanted to get two runs. Zadran did well to cover the ground and sent in a perfect throw. Rizwan put in the dive but Walton had already removed the bails by then. What an over for the Kings!

Perera gets the big fish
Karachi needed some experience to get rid of in-form Rossouw and it's Perera who has sent him back in the hut for a 24-ball 44. The left-hander charged down the track and tried to hit the Sri Lankan all-rounder over deep mid-wicket but couldn't get his timing right and was caught at long-on. Alright, brace yourself, Shimron Hetmyer has arrived at the crease.

Quality stuff from Rossouw
The left-hander has been superb against spinners in this encounter. He is playing all kinds of sweeps and hasn't allowed Qasim Akram to settle in. The Pakistan Under-19 captain was first swept towards deep mid-wicket and then reverse swept for another boundary in the same over. Rossouw and Rizwan have now put on 67 runs for the third wicket. Rizwan too is playing his role to perfection.

Time for Rossouw to shine
The left-hander from South Africa only managed 50 runs in five innings in the first half of the tournament, but is looking in great touch tonight. He slammed Arshad Iqbal for consecutive fours in the seventh over and then reverse swept Qasim Akram for his fourth boundary. Rossouw will now look to convert this into a big score.

Solid start by Multan
They did lose a couple of wickets but Multan would be delighted with the way they batted in the powerplay. Gurbaz failed to make an impression but Sohaib Maqsood played quite a cameo. Rizwan has now taken over and the team management would want others to bat around him.

Rizwan gets into the act
The wicketkeeper-batsman watched Sohaib Maqsood go berserk but now it's his turn. He got a nice and full delivery from Amir and lapped it over backward square leg for his first six. Rilee Rossouw too has announced his arrival with a boundary. Multan are already past the 50-run mark.

Got him!
Sohaib Maqsood was looking extremely dangerous but Waqas Maqsood has done the job for Karachi. Sohaib greeted Waqas with a boundary but the left-arm seamer came back well and knocked him over for 31 on the final delivery. It was a slower cutter that kept coming in with the angle and Sohaib tried to make some room but ended up dragging it back onto the stumps. Five fours and a six, Sohaib has got his team off to a fiery start.

Maqsood takes on Imad
Damn, that was some over! Maqsood slammed Imad for three fours and a six in the space of four deliveries and accumulated 21 runs from the third over. This would give Multan the much-needed momentum. The right-hander hit the second delivery towards extra cover before lofting one over mid-off. He then whacked one over long-off for a six and followed it up with another boundary to the left of cover.

Gurbaz departs in first over
What a start for Imad Wasim and his team! The left-arm spinner almost got rid of Rizwan who managed to survive a close lbw call. However, Imad got his first wicket in the same over as he sent back Gurbaz for just 3. The right-hander tried to flick but failed to make any connection and the momentum took him forward. Walton behind the stumps made no mistake and removed the bails in a flash. Not a great debut for the Afghanistan opener!

And, we are set to go!
Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Mohammad Rizwan will open the innings for Multan, while Imad Wasim will bowl the first over. Gurbaz is a fearsome opener from Afghanistan! The 19-year-old smoked 127 against Ireland on his ODI debut at this very venue in January 2021. In his last T20I series against Zimbabwe in March, the right-hander played a brutal knock of 87. He smashed six fours and seven sixes in his innings. Since 2020, Gurbaz averages 27.62 in T20s and has an outstanding strike rate of 161.1.

Karachi opt to field
Shimron Hetmyer makes his PSL debut. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Imran Tahir and Rilee Rossouw are the other three overseas players for Multan. Meanwhile, Karachi are playing Najibullah Zadran, Thisara Perera, Martin Guptill and Chadwick Walton. Playing XIs Multan: Mohammad Rizwan (c & wk), Sohaib Maqsood, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Rilee Rossouw, Shimron Hetmyer, Khushdil Shah, Sohail Tanvir, Sohail Khan, Imran Tahir, Shahnawaz Dhani, Imran Khan. Karachi: Babar Azam, Sharjeel Khan, Najibullah Zadran, Thisara Perera, Martin Guptill, Chadwick Walton (wk), Imad Wasim (c), Qasim Akram, Waqas Maqsood, Mohammad Amir, Arshad Iqbal.
01:09 PM IST
It took some time, but the sixth edition of the Pakistan Super League finally resumed on Wednesday. Now, we will have two games tonight. Multan Sultans will take on Karachi Kings before Peshawar Zalmi will come face to face against Lahore Qalandars. Imad Wasim's Karachi are second on the points table, while Multan are placed at No. 5. Mohammad Rizwan and Co. have only won one of their five encounters, while Karachi have managed to win three out of their five games. Karachi were in pretty solid form before the tournament was suspended, with Babar Azam (258) and Sharjeel Khan (200) doing the majority of the scoring. Only Mohammad Rizwan (297) has scored more runs than them in the competition so far. They have lost their entire middle-order unit - Colin Ingram, Mohammad Nabi, Dan Christian and Joe Clarke - and the onus will be on Azam and Sharjeel to keep their form going. They have managed to get solid replacements in Thisara Perera, Martin Guptill, and Najibullah Zadran and will need them to be at their best from the word go. Sharjeel (15) has smoked the most number of sixes so far and he will now be accompanied by Perera and Guptill who are equally ruthless. Karachi have chased down targets of 196 and 189, but have also failed to defend totals of 196 and 186. They clearly struggled in the bowling department and will need more from the likes of Mohammad Amir and Imad. Rizwan is currently the leading run-scorer in PSL 2021, but despite his form, Multan have managed to win only one game. Sohaib Maqsood (135) and James Vince (174) were also in decent form but the latter won't be available for the remainder of the competition. Rilee Rossouw and Shahid Afridi struggled big time with the bat and the management will hope Johnson Charles, Shimron Hetmyer and Rahmanullah Gurbaz to come good. And, all three of them have been amongst runs of late. Multan (21.5) have the worst bowling strike rate and the likes of Usman Qadir, Sohail Khan and Sohail Tanvir have simply not picked up enough wickets. Youngster Shahnawaz Dhani was amongst wickets but conceded runs at an economy of 10.33. They have got Blessing Muzarabani and the Zimbabwe fast bowler will be expected to play a huge role. And, more importantly, they will have to find a way to fit Imran Tahir in the playing XI.
