The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary, Jay Shah has suggested that the second edition of the Women’s Premier League can be played from February 22 to March 17. While the venues have not been finalized as yet, Shah also hinted that the tournament can take place in one state which has multiple venues. He cited logistical reasons behind the anticipatory move.
“The tournament will start in February, and in terms of the venues, we will hold it in one state. For us, logistics is very important for us this time around. Next time, we will figure it out,” Shah told reporters on the sidelines of the WPL auction in Mumbai on Saturday (December 9).
The 2023 edition was played in Mumbai, with all the 22 matches hosted at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium and the Brabourne Stadium.
“We have Bengaluru, Uttar Pradesh. There are so many places where we can host matches. In Gujarat also, we can do it in Ahmedabad, Rajkot and in Baroda after a few years.
“This is basically a joint call between the franchise and the BCCI. We will sit together and decide,” Shah built the anticipation further.
"It will be more successful this time. The biggest thing that you saw today was that two uncapped players (Kashvee Gautam and Vrinda Dinesh) got such big amounts, especially Indian players,” Shah added.
