Justin Langer, head coach of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), said that pitches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) have been of the highest standards and this season was no different. It was a total U-turn from his team’s mentor Zaheer Khan’s stand on the pitches and the curator, where, after the team’s loss against the Punjab Kings earlier in the season, had said harsh words.
Zaheer went on to level the Lucknow curator as ‘curator of Punjab Kings’.
Speaking after LSG’s win over the Mumbai Indians on April 4 (Friday), Langer said, “To be completely honest, both pitches here have been excellent over the last two years. There’s probably been a lot of emotion you know after the last game. My whole time as the coach here, I have really enjoyed playing here.”
The former Australia batter also said that cricketers could improve by focusing on their cricket brand rather than the pitches.
“It’s nice to have a little bit of variation, there’s only a very tiny bit of it anyway in how they play. The less we talk about pitches, the better. We have got to focus on playing good cricket. Throughout the IPL, the pitches have been of very high standard,” he added.
The 54-year-old gave the example of the last Lucknow game against Punjab to prove his points.
“The scores have been high because of good pitches. That game the other night (in which Zaheer criticised the pitch and curator) was still a high-scoring match,” he said.
