Safe to say, Rishabh Pant’s form hasn’t been the best in IPL 2025, with the INR 27 crore signing just scoring 110 runs across nine innings. The left-hander, who was supposed to be LSG’s main batter, has been beyond terrible, with an average of 12.22 whilst maintaining a strike rate of 98.21.
But Pant’s pedigree isn’t something in doubt, given the left-hander has shown way too many times that he can brush his poor form off. However, in LSG’s clash against DC, the left-hander batted at No.7, where he scored a two-ball duck.
In the aftermath of that dismissal, the broadcasters showed Pant’s disagreement with LSG’s backroom staff, triggering discussions. Former Indian selector Kris Srikkanth questioned their head coach Justin Langer, stating that why would a team’s captain just come out for two balls.
“I didn’t understand. Why did he come to bat for just two balls?” Srikanth said on his YouTube show Cheeky Cheeka.
“What’s Langer trying to do? What’s the team management trying to do? Zaheer Khan trying to do? But he is the captain. Why should he have anybody’s permission to go inside? At the end of the day it’s team management decision.
"Everybody’s sitting there. Langer is also there. Doesn’t he have brains? (“Moolai-eh kidaiyaada avanaku?)."
In LSG’s next clash against MI, however, Pant returned to his favourable position at No.4, where he could only score four off two balls, continuing his poor run. After a strong start, LSG’s form has tapered off, as they find themselves sitting sixth on the points table, with 10 points.
They next take on PBKS on May 4 (Sunday) as the race to the playoffs intensifies.
