Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant was fined INR 12 Lakh for his team's slow overrate during the LSG vs. Mumbai Indians (MI) game, match 16 in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The offence in the game at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on April 4 (Friday).
“As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Rishabh Pant was fined INR 12 Lakh,” a press release by the IPL said.
Another LSG player, mystery spinner Digvesh Singh Rathi, was also handed a fine for his notebook celebration. It was a repeat of his fine in their previous game where, against Punjab Kings, he did the same celebration.
In this game, Rathi once again celebrated in similar fashion against MI’s Naman Dhir and accumulated two demerit points as a result of it. He was also fined 50 per cent of his match fees.
“This was his second Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 this season and hence, he has accumulated two Demerit Points, in addition to One Demerit Point which he accumulated during LSG’s match against Punjab Kings on April 01, 2025,” the statement, mentioning the two fines, said.
