Bangladesh have suffered a massive blow as their opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy has been ruled out of the Test series against Pakistan due to a groin injury. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is yet to announce a replacement for the batter.
Mahmudul sustained the injury while fielding during Bangladesh A's match against the Pakistan Shaheens in Islamabad. As a result, he did not bat in the second innings, but in the first match, he looked in good touch, scoring 69 and 65.
"We have received a mail regarding Mahmudul where it is stated that he sustained an injury to his right groin and as a result, he is being rested for three weeks," BCB chief physician Debashish Chowdhury confirmed to Cricbuzz on August 17 (Sunday).
Overall, Mahmudul played 13 Tests since his debut in 2021 and has notched up 623 runs at 25.95. However, he has not been in the best of forms of late, having failed to register a score of 25 in his last seven innings.
The first Test will be played in Rawalpindi on August 21. The action will then move to Karachi for the second Test. The two Tests will be part of the World Test Championship (WTC). Pakistan are currently fifth on the table, while Bangladesh are three spots below them at eighth.
